Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

  •  Do I need an RV or trailer to use the campground?

    • No the campground also has tent sites with wash water and electricity available on-site.

  •  How do I make a campsite reservation?

    • After 1 May, just call Joe at the campground 902-547-2882.  Use the campground map on the maps page and ask Joe what's available.

  •  How do I become a member of the club?

    • Generally, membership is available for serving and retired Canadian Forces personnel, DND & NPF employees.  Occasionally membership may also be extended to sponsored guests.  For more detailed information you can see our constitution.

  •  Is the 14 Wing Lake Pleasant Campground open to the general public?

    • No, it is a private campground intended for the exclusive use of Canadian and foreign military, retired military, DND Public and Non-public servants (also retired), and sponsored guests.

  •  What is a seasonal camper?

    • This term refers to any club member who has paid the fees for the full camping season from 1 May to 15 Oct.  They can then come and go as they wish and are assured of keeping their site from season to season, thus seasonal camper.

  •  Is the campground secure?

    • Yes, there is a live-in manager and the main gate off the public road is locked each night after 2200 hrs.

  •  If I join the club, why am I expected to volunteer some of my time at Lake Pleasant when I just want to camp?

    • Although volunteer work is not mandatory, it does lead to present and future success of the campground.  LPCC is not a typical campground.  It's truly an interactive adventure.  Participating in a campground activity over the season is a simple expectation and builds the camaraderie that exists already in LPCC.

  •  Does the club own the lake?

    • No, the lake belongs to the province of Nova Scotia.  The club does own the island south of the lake middle.

  •  I want to camp at Lake Pleasant but where can I visit in the daytime?

        Have a recommendation, email me.

  •  Where's the nearest shopping?

    • Just up the hill, there is Springfield's biggest store, just outside the campground north on highway 10 in Springfield, only 5 minutes.  Jeff has all your camping needs including:
      •     NSLC Products
      •     Clamato juice, Tabasco sauce,
      •     Sun screen, insect repellant, camping accessories,
      •     Pop, chips, bars, bread, milk, other groceries,
      •     movies, fishing license
      •     If you don't see it, ask for it ...

    • There is a grocery, pharmacy, service station(s), and NSLC about 12 minutes away south on highway 10 in New Germany.  There are no stores or canteens on the campground.

  • Is there on-site well water that is safe to drink?

    • Yes, although the geographic area has increased levels of naturally occurring arsenic and uranium, 14 Wing Greenwood & the Club have installed a filtration system adjacent the shower house closest to the lodge.  Recent testing has determined that the water is safe for human consumption at the filtration water point.  All other distributed water is only safe for washing.

  • What should I know about ticks and (yuck) leeches.

    • Yes, there are ticks in Nova Scotia's forests - do not panic if you have a tick on your clothing, simply brush it away.  If the tick has burrowed its head into your skin, then simply pull straight out with tweezers and treat with antiseptic.

    •  The same as we have ticks in our woods, there are leeches in our lakes.  If a leech attaches itself to your skin, then get out of the water and use a salt shaker to pour salt on the leech.  It will detach.  Do not panic, remember it got there without you feeling it, so other than being gross looking, it doesn't hurt.  The leeches tend to be in the warm shallows around the lake shore.  If you stay moving or can swim to deeper water, you will significantly decrease your exposure.  In the 8 summers I have been swimming at the lake I have never had a leech attach itself to me.
