Camp tales are here to share stories and sometimes poke a little fun.  Generally what happens camping stays camping, but stories in good taste can be told.

Back in July 2008 I had the mis-fortune of being rushed to the hospital from Lake Pleasant campground and underwent emergency surgery on my upper spine. I was on physio and
rehab for the whole summer after a week in hospital.  During this time we managed to do some camping and enjoyed darts on friday nights. In September 2008 I finally got the ok
to return to work. I would like to thank all the people that helped me through this tough time Liz my wife, Cathy and Jim and all the people at darts, and two people (unknown) who helped me back to my lawn chair when I couldn't get up from falling down. No more do I have to use a cane and can walk pretty good now. Now camping season is just around the corner, been a long winter and cant wait to sit by the campfire. Thanks once again to everyone.

On Labour Day weekend, the gang from Comox Street (Twilight Zone)
revised a long standing LPCC tradition which has gone on since 1996. The
"Zonies" planned and organized the annual Twilight Zone Pot Luck Dinner.  The Zonies all gathered on the road ( no where else can hold us all !) in front of Len & Heather Edmunds lot and ( with heart felt thanks to the ladies) feasted on everything on the menu including corn, b-b-q
ribs, meat balls, lasagna, salads, breads, desserts any other number of
treats and goodies! The dinner was revived this year having lapsed for a
couple of years as scheduling, attendance and of course, weather issues
forced cancellations.
This year, seven pic-nic tables and three fold up tables were required
to hold all the food and revellers as a total of 31 people attended the
dinner !! The older photo, shows one of the dinners from roughly ten
years ago. Note that there were only about a dozen people in "The Zone"
in those days and only three pic-nic tables were needed to accomodate
the whole crew!. My how times change! We were also missing a few Zonies
for this dinner and by count, had all showed up, we would have easily
had 40 persons for the dinner !
The diners were treated to speeches ( thankfully SHORT !!) from Len
Edmunds and Gary Saunders.  New Twilight Zone campers were officially
welcomed to the area.  Long standing Twilght Zoner George Butler also
delighted the assembly with a humourous tale of how the nick-name
"Twilight Zone" came into being for this particular corner of the camp
ground.  Even the rain Gods saw fit to give us a couple of hours grace
from this otherwise lousy summer as the afternoon was sunny, clear and
warm!
The picture of the five "children" is unique in that these are  "kids"
of Twilight Zoners and have been coming to LPCC, some of them since they
were toddlers!! In fact, two of the "children" in the photo are now Moms
& Dads themselves! As the song goes, time keeps slipping into the
future!
In the photo (left to right) are: Jessica (Tanya & Gary), Andrew (Cathy
& Kevin), Michelle (Sharon & George), Dwayne ( Don & Kendra). The short
fella in back is B.J (Bill & Mary).

A great time (not to mention a great tradition) was had by all !

Hi Everyone, just a cute story I think of yesteryear. When I was sixteen, my husbands' Dad, Jack Richardson brought us kids one Sunday to visit and enjoy Lake Pleasant. I was so intriqued by its beauty and ambience, that I took myself and my newly formed hairdo, "french roll and bubbles" remember it was a long time ago, and strolled quietly along the wharf in the park. Seconds later I felt a pair of hands around my waist and hair and all were thrown into the lake. Embarrassed? You bet! Angry? No kidding! To think I made myself pretty for "him" and he did that to me. Oh well.

Little did I know that some thirty years later I would be living in Springfield and once again would enjoy the beauty of the park as I would take daily walks during all kinds of weather through the area with my dogs and my friends.

Lake Pleasant is certainly a lovely park and I know it will be around a long long time for others to enjoy.

Thank You
J. Richardson
